Ledger® Live: | Getting started with Ledger

A concise, step-by-step presentation to set up Ledger Live, connect your Ledger device, protect your recovery, and manage assets securely.

1 — What is Ledger Live? (H2)

Ledger Live is Ledger’s official desktop and mobile companion app for managing cryptocurrencies with your Ledger hardware wallet. Use it to add accounts, send and receive crypto, buy or swap assets, stake supported tokens and keep device firmware up to date.

Quick facts (H3)

2 — First steps: download & initialise (H2)

Download Ledger Live (H4)

Choose the right Ledger Live for your OS (Windows / macOS / Linux / iOS / Android), then install and run it. If you have a new Ledger device, Ledger Live guides you through creating a PIN and generating a 24-word recovery phrase.

  1. Go to the official Ledger Live download page and pick your OS.
  2. Open Ledger Live and follow "Set up as new device" or "Restore device" depending on your situation.
  3. Write down the recovery words on the supplied Recovery Sheet — never store them digitally.

Never share your 24-word phrase with anyone or enter it into websites/apps — Ledger will never ask for it.

3 — Add accounts & manage crypto (H2)

Adding accounts (H4)

In Ledger Live, open "Add account", select the coin and follow the prompts. The device must be connected and unlocked. You can see balances, transaction history and token details in one place.

Tip (H5)

Use the "Exchange" and "Buy" features inside Ledger Live only if available for your country — Ledger works with selected on-ramp and swap partners.

4 — Firmware, updates & device management (H2)

Keep Ledger device firmware and Ledger Live updated. Ledger Live shows firmware notifications in "My Ledger" — apply them using the app and the connected device.

Why updates matter (H4)

Firmware and app updates patch security issues, add coin support and improve reliability. Follow official instructions in Ledger Live when updating.

5 — Recovery options & backup (H2)

Your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP) is the single key to your crypto. Ledger offers additional recovery options and services — read their Recovery product information and support articles to choose the best method for you.
